THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH
by Walter Tevis

  • I read it between Sept 15 & 17, 2016
  • Genre: SCIENCE FICTION

I wish I’d written this ...

... because it's insightful and moving!

A beautifully crafted story about the condition of an alien, but really about the human condition. I thought my imagination might fixate on David Bowie, who was perfectly cast in the movie version, but I was so engaged by the writing that this didn’t happen—the novel felt very distinct from the film. It’s a tragic tale, terribly moving, appealing directly to any sense of “apartness” the reader might possess, and emphasising how even the best laid plans can fall victim to human frailties. A great novel.
